In a cryptic Instagram post, Samsung Exynos announced that “everything changes on November 19th” when the company shows us all “what entertainment will look like in the future.” The Korean firm is hinting at improved mobile gaming and graphics technologies. The post features multiple photos that show how gaming started and how gaming graphics have continued to evolve over the years. Samsung suggests it is now ready to take a big step into the future of gaming and entertainment. “Gaming has come a long way. What we used to deem ‘immersive’, relied on a slew of external factors, like the surrounding environment. But the advancements of semiconductors have changed that – learn how, when we move to our new home on November 19th. Stay tuned,” the caption read (via). Since the post comes from the Samsung Exynos account, it’s more or less clear that we will see a new Exynos processor on November 19. But what makes us believe it’ll be the Exynos 2200 is the emphasis on the future of gaming graphics in this Instagram teaser. The Exynos 2200 will finally see Samsung’s partnership with AMD, which it announced back in June 2019, come to fruition. The new chipset will feature AMD’s RDNA2 Radeon Mobile GPU. This will bring technologies like ray tracing and variable-rate shading, something that is usually found in desktop and laptop GPUs only. There are also reports of Samsung preparing to launch an entry-level and mid-range Exynos processor soon. But these chipsets surely don’t warrant such cryptic teasers unless they boast some unexpected graphics technologies. All in all, the Exynos 2200 seems highly likely to arrive next Friday.
Exynos 2200 will power the Galaxy S22 series in some markets
Samsung planned to increase the use of its in-house Exynos processors in its Galaxy smartphones next year. However, the ongoing global semiconductor chip shortage has made it difficult for companies to follow through with such plans. A report Monday claimed that the Koren firm may use Snapdragon chips in the Galaxy S22 series universally. While that may not be true, there’s a growing possibility that Samsung may release Exynos-powered Galaxy S22 units in fewer markets than before. Markets like India and Southeast Asia, which usually got Exynos variants, may switch to Snapdragon chipsets next year. But for the time being, the focus is on what Samsung unveils on November 19th. Based on all the leaks and rumors so far, the Exynos 2200 could be on par with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon counterpart in terms of raw performance. Even MediaTek may challenge Qualcomm with its upcoming Dimensity 2000. The war of chips is heating up nicely amid a global shortage. We will keep you updated.
