The Razer Edge from 2013 was a larger device that ran Windows. And was designed to be a full-on portable gaming PC as well as a portable console. It was essentially a Windows tablet powered by an Intel Core-i7 processor and an NVIDIA GPU. It also featured a keyboard attachment, as well as a controller attachment you could slide the Edge into. A Nintendo Switch-like design a full 4 years before the Nintendo Switch if you will. Today’s Razer Edge is quite a bit different. Though from the video below you can clearly see where the inspiration came from. The new Edge still features a tablet design, albeit in a smaller formfactor. It carries a 144Hz 6.8-inch AMOLED display with an FHD+ resolution and is designed to be used with the new Razer Kishi V2 Pro. Which comes bundled with it. A specially designed Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 gaming platform powers the experience, and the device comes with a 5,000mAh battery. This is Razer’s new vision for ultra-portable on-the-go gaming. Powered by the cloud, and capable of fitting in your pocket. Razer will begin selling the device in the beginning of next year.

The Razer Edge handheld offers many ways to play

While some of the imagery shows the device nestled in between the two sides of the Kishi V2 Pro controller, this isn’t the only way you can play games with the Edge. The display is touchscreen and runs on Android 12. So you can download and install games (like Call Of Duty: Mobile and Call Of Duty: Warzone Mobile) onto it and play with touch controls. The Razer Edge will also come pre-installed with apps for Xbox Game Pass and GeForce NOW for cloud gaming. But there are even more ways to play. It also comes with Steam Link, Moonlight, and Parsec so you can stream games from your PC. When it comes to the remaining specs, the Edge comes with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, 2-way speakers with Verizon Adaptive Sound, 2 digital mics, and 128GB of internal storage. It’s also surprisingly light at 263.8g or 400.8g with the controller attached.

Pricing starts at $399

When the Razer Edge handheld launches next year (officially in January 2023), the device will start at $399. This will be for the WiFi-only model. There will also be the 5G model coming but it will be available exclusively from Verizon. Which has yet to announce an official availability date or price tag. Lastly, there will be a Founders Edition model for $499 that comes with a pair of Hammerhead True Wireless V2 earbuds. All three will come bundled with the new Kishi V2 Pro. Which is an upgraded version of the Kishi V2 we reviewed earlier this year, complete with added HyperSense haptics and a 3.5mm audio port for wired headphones. Otherwise it’s the same controller. Razer is allowing consumers to reserve the Edge with a $5 pre-order deposit to ensure those who want one are able to get it upon launch. Similar to the way Valve did with the Steam Deck. Though we imagine reservations will also be dealt with in order, also like the Steam Deck. You can place a reservation by heading to this link here. Razer also says the pre-order deposits are refundable should customers change their mind on the purchase. Razer Edge
