Someone used the Pixel 7 Pro for weeks believing it was the Pixel 6 Pro

This Reddit user, AMC20_, says he purchased the device from Facebook Marketplace. The device was described as the Pixel 6 Pro. We also know what listing he’s talking about. It was reported recently that the Pixel 7 Pro was listed on Facebook Marketplace as the Pixel 6 Pro. The user says that he used the phone for three weeks without a problem. He didn’t even realize this isn’t the Pixel 6 Pro, he was convinced he got what he paid for. Granted, the Pixel 7 Pro in this Obsidian color looks similar to the Stormy Black Pixel 6 Pro, kind of. It’s a bit odd he wasn’t tipped off by the logo on the back, though. The device in question doesn’t have Google’s logo on the back, but a placeholder logo, as you can see in the image provided below.

When did he realize he has the Pixel 7 Pro? Well, when his phone got remotely wiped by Google. When the news broke out, that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro prototypes are listed on eBay and Facebook Marketplace, Google reacted.

Google remotely wiped the device recently

Google remotely wiped the Pixel 7 Pro prototype this person has been using, and thus rendered it unusable. When powered on, the phone is thrown to Android’s fastboot recovery menu, which confirms the ‘Cheetah’ codename. As you expect, people started asking all types of questions in this Reddit post. So if you do have a specific question about the Pixel 7 Pro prototype he used, you can ask him and see if you get an answer. There are a ton of questions and answers there already, in case you’d like to check that out. On the flip side, if you’d like to know more about the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, feel free to check out our previews. Both phones are expected to arrive in October.
