Rodimi Eve Plus Overall Design Impressions
The Roidmi Eve Plus Robot Vacuum Cleaner is a thick disc, pretty much like most other robot vacs. Size-wise it is 13.8 inches in diameter and 3.9 inches tall. You might have some furniture that is low lying and Eve Plus may not be able to traverse underneath it. The main reason for the height is the large Lidar sensor on the top that maps your house.
The body is glossy white ABS plastic and it has a high-quality finish. On the top of the vacuum, there is a tempered glass panel that should resist scuffs and scratches. There are a few controls besides the power button but for my review, I relied on using the app for the most part. Flip the disc over and you see a pair of large rubber wheels that are spring-loaded. This allows the Eve Plus to cross transitions approximately three-quarters of an inch which should be sufficient for most houses. Between the two wheels is the main roller brush and behind it is the area to attach the mopping accessories. In front of the roller brush is the small steering wheel and there are two horizontal brushes on the side. These brushes sweep the dust and debris to the center which the main roller brush then collects.
Towards the back, you have the dust bin and water container which is accessible via a quick-release button. You can also access the main roller brush to clean it to remove hair or other debris that is stuck in it. There are sensors everywhere so if you remove this container the unit will let you know and you also get a notification on the app.
Let’s quickly check the dust collection / charging station
So besides the vacuum cleaner, Roidmi sent us the dust collection/charging station. You need this accessory in order to charge the Eve Plus for regular use. The top part is where you flip the lid open and attach the dust collection bag. Once you look at this setup it becomes clear that you need this since the vacuum itself has a pretty small dust collection unit. A couple of things to keep in mind – you will need to set this up near a power outlet and ensure there is enough space open around where this collection unit is set up. The reason is that the robot needs a bit of open space to guide itself correctly for charging and emptying the dust bin contents into the dust bag. Size-wise this unit is about 14.1 inches high and 13.8 inches wide. The instruction manual will also tell you how much space you need available on either side for the robot to navigate to this unit.
Built-in deodorization system is quite nifty
The dust collector lets you know battery level, deodorizer system status, and if the dust collection bag needs changing. The best part about Eve Plus is the built-in sterilization system in the dust collection unit. It comes on after the robot empties its small bin into the larger dust bag. Roidmi claims of using active ozone technology to kill microbes and neutralize odors. The dust bag capacity is 3 liters and there are a total of 4 bags in the retail package.
Roidmi Eve Plus Vacuum Performance is quite good
The factory rating on the Roidmi Eve Plus vacuum is about 2700 Pascals (Pa) of suction. So in comparison with other robot vacs (2000 Pa) this is much higher at least on paper. This is significantly more than the average robot vac, which pulls about 2,000Pa. However, in practice, I found that you need the highest setting and 2X pass to consistently clean medium pile carpet. This high suction 2X pass setting via the app does indeed get results identical to my upright Dyson.
The onboard dust bin is small but the dust collector bag itself is quite generous. I find that after cleaning about 1000 sq ft in about half an hour the bin gets full and the robot returns to the dust collection unit to empty itself and then continue on with the rest of the job.
How good is the mopping feature on this robot vacuum cleaner?
The onboard water tank is about 8.5 oz or 250 ml which is larger than other mopping robot vacs. And one reason why the onboard dust bin is slightly small in size. So you should get a lot of coverage for hardwood or tile surfaces.
While the robot will mop the floor you still need to fill the water yourself in the reservoir. It has three settings for delivering water to the top which is made of microfiber. The default setting is to start with small to moderate amount of water which is fine for superficial dirt stains. But for best results, you might want to increase airflow and let it go over the area a few times until it is clean. I did find that with 1/2 inch grout spacing the cleaning isn’t as effective. So the flatter your hard surface, the better the cleaning results will be from a mopping perspective.
Battery life on the Roidmi Eve Plus is excellent
Rodimi claims that the Eve Plus battery lasts for up to 250 minutes on a single charge. In my use case, I never let it run that long. And at my 2X pass and high suction setting resulted in a battery drain of roughly just under 1% per minute.
For my roughly 1000 square feet of carpet area, it took the Eve Plus about an hour or so and there was still plenty of battery charge left to mop the 400 square feet of tile. So battery life on this robot is excellent in my opinion. And if at all you manage to run the unit down, it will return to the charging station when the battery reaches 10%. Once recharging is done, it will continue where it left off.
Using the Rodimi Eve Plus on a daily basis
To get the most out of this robot vacuum cleaner you need to use the Rodimi app from the Google Play Store. Use the QR code to download the app and go through the registration process to set up. There are a couple of easy steps to connect the device to the home Wi-Fi network. Just note that it uses the 2.4GHz spectrum to connect the device to your home network.
Most of the functions require the use of the Roidmi app
The user interface is easy to follow and you should be able to start using the robot vacuum right away. For first-time use, press Start cleaning and let the Eve Plus move around your house and create a map. Check the Whole map section you can save the map it creates and also add more maps if you have a multi-story dwelling. On the main menu, you can return the device to the charging station, check on charge status and previous stats in terms of cleaning. In the map section, you can set rooms, go/no-go zones, virtual partitions, and set specific areas for cleaning. You can also select the suction level and or mopping options. And you can also partition off the mopping areas from the carpet areas in the house. Besides these functions, you can schedule cleaning times on a daily or weekly basis. You can even name separate rooms and clean them on a particular schedule. For my review, I let Eve Plus clean the living area and hallways 2X a week and the bedrooms 1X a week. You can also check the life of the HEPA filter and get stats on the cleaning cycles in the app. There are a few other functions, such as remote, voice level control, and integration with Alexa and Google Assistant. Roidmi also promises regular firmware updates. A few days after the unit arrived there was an update available and it took a few minutes to update the device to the latest firmware.
Roidmi Eve Plus Verdict
The Roidmi Eve Plus Robot Vacuum Cleaner is designed quite well and does a great job once you use it for a bit. Each house layout is different with differing flooring so you need to use it for a week or two to determine how this robot vacuum cleaner will work best for your house. During my review, I found it to be relatively quiet, efficient, and pretty smart at avoiding obstacles. The Lidar system generates a very accurate map of your house and furniture and Eve Plus is good at avoiding the virtual barrier zones. Battery life is quite good, the dust bin has a decent capacity and the deodorizing system is the cherry on top. Personally, I would like a slightly louder but better suction vacuum motor and the software could use a bit more polish (menu descriptors are from a non-native English person). And right now for Black Friday, the price is definitely great if you are thinking of getting one for your house.
