Wear OS 3.0, introduced with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. Following the debut of the new Wear OS, we are now seeing more apps getting updated following the Wear OS 3.0 design language. The revamped version of the Google Messages Wear OS app also follows in the same footsteps. The design changes fall in line with Android 12 and Wear OS apps. Several users on Reddit are reportedly getting the new updated version of the Google Messages app on their Wear OS devices. As expected, the update gives the Messages app more rounded corners, visual changes, and better separation between messages. Notably, the style is quite similar to the design language of the recently rolled out Play Store update for the Wear OS smartwatches. The new Google Messages app gets rid of the old blue theme for a true black theme. There are various UI elements that now feature round corners, which look appealing. Functionality-wise, the app doesn’t get any new features. The update is more of a design overhaul.
The redesigned Google Messages app arrives with app version 9.2.030
As per reports by 9to5Google, the update first started showing up on the newly launched Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. It turned out, the update is not exclusive to the new hardware. Later, folks at Android Central reported receiving the revamped Google Messages app update on the TicWatch E3 and Fossil Gen 5 smartwatches. The new app arrives with app version 9.2.030 “BaSingSe”. This apparently hints that more devices should receive the new version of the Google Messages app in the coming days. App developers often roll out new updates in waves. This enables them to ensure that everything is working fine before it goes into the hands of more users. Back with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, Google announced the list of apps that will be updated on the older Wear OS versions to bring enhanced user experiences. The highlight included the new synchronization ability on the Google Messages app. This feature allowed users to continue with conversations on their smartwatch, where they left off on their smartphone. Overall, the new Google Messages app update brings the design language of the app closer to that of the Wear OS 3.0. Besides, this gives a modern feel to the app and brings Wear OS 3.0 experience for users running an older version of Wear OS.
