Along with the new SMR, which contains fixes for dozens of vulnerabilities found in Android OS, the latest update also brings some user-facing changes and improvements to the OnePlus 6 and 6T. Perhaps it fixes the issues that many users have been reporting since the stable Android 11 update last month. According to the official changelog, the devices are receiving some optimizations related to system power consumption for improved thermal management. Users have been complaining of rapid battery drainage on the OnePlus 6 and 6T following the Android 11 update. As the company notes, these optimizations should also allow for reduced overheating of the phones. OnePlus also promises improvements to the sensitivity of the gyro sensor. It’s unclear if there have been reports of the gyro sensor not working properly or being less sensitive. Moreover, OnePlus is promising network connectivity improvements with the latest update for the OnePlus 6 and 6T. Last but not least, the changelog mentions improved system stability and fixes for some other known issues that were present in the first stable Android 11 build.

The latest update for the OnePlus 6, 6T is now rolling out incrementally

As usual, OnePlus is rolling out the latest update for the OnePlus 6 and 6T in an incremental manner. Meaning the OTA (over the air) package will be first available to a small group of users. Once the company confirms the new update to be free of any issues, it will roll out the OTA package widely to users all over the world. If you are using either of the 2018 OnePlus flagships, you should receive the OxygenOS 11.1.1.1 update soon. You will be notified of the OTA update once it becomes available for your phone. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app. Simply navigate to System » System updates and follow the on-screen instructions. If you don’t want to wait for the OTA update, you can manually flash the latest firmware. Just ensure that you know what you are doing. XDA has links for both the full package as well as the incremental package from OxygenOS 11.0 for both OnePlus 6 models here. Some links may not be live yet but they should be pretty soon. You can always check back later if you haven’t received the OTA update.
