What is Basketball Playgrounds?

The NBA Playgrounds series of sports games has been a popular series for PC and consoles, but the games never saw a mobile release. For a while, Saber has been working on a mobile adaptation of the games for a couple of years, and it was even under the working title “NBA 2K Playgrounds.” Now, we have a mobile release, and its name was changed to Basketball Playgrounds. It’s on early access right now which means that it’s still in development. The version on the Play Store is playable, but you should expect there to be bugs and errors from time to time. Also, there might be content that’s yet to be added to the game. When you download it, just know that it’s not the final version.

How is the game played?

Basketball Playgrounds is pretty straightforward compared to other mobile basketball games. You’re playing street basketball, so you’re going to be playing on teams of only two players. While playing, you get the standard basketball commands: shoot, pass, steal, dribble, guard, and block. The point of the game, unsurprisingly, is to score more points than the other team before the timer runs out. As you progress, you’ll be able to level up your characters and upgrade their gear to give them the edge. This is where Basketball Playgrounds reminds you that it’s a mobile game. As you play the game, you’ll earn in-game currency in the form of gold coins and premium currency in the form of diamonds. You use these to pay for upgrades and purchasing items. This game also has card packs which are basically like chests in other games. When you open them, they give you a varying number of coins and other items. So, you get your standard array of mobile game mechanics, but what’s fortunate is that I haven’t come across any ads. This might change when the final game releases, so you may want to take that with a grain of salt. If you’re looking to get this game on your phone, it doesn’t look too graphically demanding, so you should be able to play it on just about any Android phone. The app is free and the Android version is about 635MB right now; however, that could change when the game officially launches.
