Based on user reports, version 2.2.49.22062261 of the app appears to be the culprit. It rolled out late last week and has already reached most users globally. However, after updating, many users are unable to open the app. In the few cases where the app opens, it crashes immediately. Others are reporting a screen blackout on trying to open Galaxy Wearable. Samsung has acknowledged the issue and said that it’s working on a fix. In the meantime, the company suggests a workaround that should get the latest version of the Galaxy Wearable app up and running. According to a moderator on Samsung Community forums, the problem occurs if users haven’t granted the “Nearby Devices” permission to the app. Simply granting that permission should solve everything. However, it shouldn’t be necessary for the app to launch and work as intended. As such, Samsung is working on finding the root cause of the issue. It will roll out an update to the app with the fix in the coming days. We don’t have an ETA for the update, though.

One UI Watch 4.5 beta users may not have this problem

Samsung recently began beta testing One UI Watch 4.5 for the Galaxy Watch 4 series. The company released a new version of the Galaxy Wearable app for users participating in the beta program. This special version was also briefly plagued by a similar bug but Samsung quickly addressed it, Tizen Help reports. However, the Korean firm is taking longer to fix the issue for non-beta users, the publication adds, confirming that the bug has affected their devices as well. We will let you know when the fix rolls out. For the time being, you might want to avoid installing version 2.2.49.22062261 of the Galaxy Wearable app if you haven’t already.
