The June SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the unlocked Galaxy Z Fold 2 in the US comes with firmware version F916U1UES2GVEA. The new software package isn’t yet widely available on all carrier networks. But that should be just a matter of time now. However, don’t be hopeful of any major new features or changes here. The changelog only mentions this month’s security fixes. The build number for the new software package also doesn’t suggest anything more. But the latest SMR itself is pretty huge, containing fixes for more than five dozen vulnerabilities. According to Samsung’s updated security bulletin, the June SMR fixes several critical vulnerabilities related to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and more. Some of these issues affected the whole Android family while some others have their impact limited to the Korean firm’s Android-powered devices — both smartphones and tablets. Fixes for all of these vulnerabilities are now coming to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 owners in the US. Interestingly, the foldable had picked up new camera features — Night Portrait and Auto Framing — with the June update in other regions. We expect the US units to receive those with the July update, which should roll out a few weeks later.

Galaxy Z Fold 2 is getting a second June update in Europe

While the June SMR is just reaching the US units of the Galaxy Z Fold 2, the European version of the phone is getting a second June update. Currently available to users in Germany with firmware version F916BXXU2GVF3, this update only brings stability improvements and nothing else, at least according to the official changelog. We will let you know if it arrives stateside as well. Meanwhile, if you’re rocking the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in the US, the June SMR should be on your way now. As it has been since the beginning, this software update will roll out in batches and will reach all eligible units over the next few days. Watch out for notification prompting to download the OTA (over the air) file. You may also manually check for updates from the Software update section in the Settings app.
