How to save data while streaming Spotify

Saving data while you’re streaming on Spotify is actually pretty simple, and we’re going to give you three ways that this can be done. That includes enabling the data saver, adjusting the streaming quality and downloading for offline listening. These three ways  will help you continue listening to your tunes, while also keeping your smartphone bill down.

Enable Data Saver

For most people this option is going to be enough to save on your monthly bill. To enable data saver, open up Spotify. Tap on the gear icon in the upper-right hand corner.

Than scroll down to “Data Saver” and tap on that. Depending on whether you’re a free or premium user, your toggles will look a tad different. But you’ll want to tap on the toggle for “Data Saver”. Or “Audio Quality”.

This is going to limit your streaming music to 24 kbit/s and also disables artist canvases. And that’s it. That’s how easy it is to enable the Data Saver.

Adjust the streaming quality

You can also adjust the streaming quality, in case you don’t want to go as far as to enable the data saver. Again, open the Spotify app. Tap on the gear icon in the upper-right hand corner to enter the Settings. Now scroll down to the “Audio Quality” section.

Here, you will see options for the quality of music when you’re streaming on WiFi and on Cellular. Find the “Cellular Streaming” option, and change it to Low. And that’s it. It also works on other platforms, in case your WiFi is also metered.

Download music and podcasts for offline listening

Your final option here is to download your music and podcasts for offline listening. This will obviously keep you from using any data while you’re in the car or away from your home. Open up the Spotify app. Tap on the music that you want to download. Like a playlist or an album. You’ll see a toggle next to “Download”. Just tap on that. If you’re on Android or iOS, there will be a download icon next to the heart icon. Just tap on that to download.

Now it will download that playlist or album for you. And if other songs get added to the playlist, it will automatically download them for you, while on WiFi.

Spotify allows you to listen offline on iOS, Android, Windows and Mac. But you can’t download individual songs, unfortunately. And there you have it. That’s how you can save some data when you are streaming Spotify. Now stream on.
