“With our current forecasts, we expect Google Store in the U.S. to sell out of Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 in the coming weeks following the launch of Pixel 5a (5G). These products will continue to be available through some partners while supplies last,” a Google spokesperson said. As per a report by The Verge, the Google Store lists both phones as sold out while third-party retailers who still have stocks will likely run out soon.
Google likely took this step to accommodate the upcoming duo of Pixel 6 phones
The demise of the Pixel 4a 5G seems logical given that the Pixel 5a 5G broke cover only recently. The same can be said about the Pixel 5. Google is likely trying to avoid confusion with the predecessor ahead of the release of the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro. Pixel phones of the past have not been on par with Samsung Galaxy and Apple iPhones in terms of hardware. But Google is making some big changes with the new Pixel 6 lineup. The company has confirmed that the Pixel 6 will pack a 6.4-inch screen backed by a 90Hz refresh rate. While there’s no confirmation on other aspects of the display, it’s likely that it will be an AMOLED panel.
The upcoming Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will debut Google’s Tensor chipset
The Pixel 6 Pro will use a 6.7-inch QHD+ Plastic AMOLED screen and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Both phones will also debut Google’s new Tensor chipset co-developed and produced by Samsung. Leaks have hinted that the Google Tensor chip will be faster than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset. However, it will reportedly be slower than the newest Snapdragon 888 SoC. As one would expect, both phones will introduce Android 12 to the world. While the Pixel 6 is expected to sport a 4,614mAh battery pack, the Pro variant will come with a 5,000mAh unit. Google will also introduce a new wireless charger with the two flagships. There’s certainly a lot to look forward to from Google’s duo of flagships.
